ABOUT US
Middle East Christian Outreach has been one of the tools that God has used to serve His Church in the Arabic-speaking nations of the Middle East.
Also known by its acronym, MECO Canada, it is a non-profit corporation that was established in 1978 following the amalgamation of three Christian agencies: The Lebanon Evangelical Mission, founded in 1860, the Arabic Literature Mission, founded in 1898, and the Middle East General Mission, founded in 1907.
The founding missions were involved in establishing Christian schools, orphanages, churches and medical centres, as well as the publication and distribution of Christian literature in Arabic, Farsi and Turkish.
Today, MECO Canada sees its role as mobilizing people and prayer for God’s work among Middle Eastern people. Our mandate is to come alongside Churches and Christians in Canada and the Middle East, and ask how we can assist them in their ministry to Middle Eastern people. We seek to serve where we are needed and wanted.
MECO Canada personnel come from all walks of life and are committed to Jesus Christ – going where He sends us, doing what He asks us to do. His mission! His message! His work! His way!

Commitment: To serve with MECO Canada, individuals must be able to demonstrate their commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and to serving His Church.
Statement of Faith: All individuals serving in MECO Canada, including Board members and Office Staff, are required to sign MECO Canada’s Statement of Faith. Any significant change in belief by an individual must be communicated promptly to MECO Canada’s leadership team.
Prayer: MECO Canada recognizes that our work is solely dependent on God and therefore prayer must be at the heart of everything we do.
The Local Church: Our work with churches must be seen as “temporary assignments”. We are called to assist and when our assistance is no longer required we need to move on as the Lord leads.
Alliances: MECO Canada encourages the formation of alliances with churches, individual Christians and other Christian organizations for specific projects. We believe that by working together much more can be accomplished.
Cultural Sensitivity: It is essential that those working with MECO Canada in the Middle East adapt to Middle Eastern culture rather than expecting the culture to adapt to them.
Differences of Opinion: Since MECO Canada is an interdenominational organization working with churches of all denominations, there may be differences of opinion on matters not considered fundamentals of the faith. Individuals serving with MECO Canada are expected to respect differences of opinion, even if they don’t agree with them. In things essential, unity, in things non-essential, liberty and in all things, love!
