MECO Canada News
Dear Friends of MECO:
Where were you in September 2019?
Could you have imagined then, that in a few short months the whole world would be locked down. And when the lock-down came, could you have imagined that a ministry like MECO Canada would be able to continue its work?
But here we are, four years later, and we have good news to share.
This past spring, two of our staff returned home permanently but not to retire. Thanks to modern technology they can be in Canada and continue to help with the administration of a school for refugee children in the Middle East, until staff to replace them are found.
Their presence in Canada is going to be invaluable. In 2016, the MECO Board realized that with so many Middle Eastern people coming to Canada, we needed to not only assist, where wanted and needed, Churches and Christian organizations in the Middle East, but to come alongside Canadian Churches and Christian organizations as they reach out to their Middle Eastern neighbours.
For that reason, we hope that God will open the way for our recently returned team members to do that, and that they will also be used of God to inspire a new generation of people to serve Him here and overseas.
Another member of our team, who shares God’s good news online three times a week, saw his audience of Arabic speakers grow from 22,000 in 2019 to 123,000 viewers today. Not only are people hungry to hear about Jesus, but many want to be prayed for! As a result, he now provides a prayer ministry for his viewers, praying with them regularly through various social media platforms.
Besides prayer, his viewers also want something else – Bibles! Again, thanks to God’s provision of modern technology, he can direct them to websites where they can download Bibles.
Exciting isn’t it, to see ministries like this growing. It reminds us of what Nehemiah said, “…because the hand of my God was upon me.”
There is another passage that stands out for us: “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will be established.” Proverbs 19:21 RSV
This is particularly significant as we continue to seek God’s purpose for us in the weeks and months ahead. We are praying that we will recognize His leadership, and that we will be indifferent to anything but His purpose and plan for us. We would welcome your prayers for that.
Some might wonder why a small organization like ours would want to continue, but until the Lord says stop, we happily carry on.
May we leave you with another prayer request?
Please pray that God will draw to Jesus, the millions upon millions of Middle Eastern people who don’t know Him as their Saviour. In His prayer during the last supper, Jesus said, “And this is eternal life, that they know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.” John 17:3 RSV
Please pray that with confidence, for Jesus also said, “For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.” John 3:17 RSV
God bless you and those you love!
